Becoming A Bar/Bat Mitzvah

Becoming a Bar/Bat Mitzvah at Congregation B’nai Tzedek is a powerful experience that marks the welcoming of a young adult member of our congregational family into our community. This time-honored tradition and rite of passage is celebrated together with the community. A Bar or Bat Mitzvah is a major transformational event in the life of an entire family, including the child, parents, grandparents, siblings and extended family. The preparation, increased focus on Torah and Jewish identity and the event itself can enrich the family’s Judaism.
This rite of passage offers families a wonderful opportunity to better understand and strengthen their connection with their Jewish heritage as well as with the congregation. For children who have special needs; our congregation does everything possible to ensure that any child with special needs will be able to experience a Bar/Bat Mitzvah with joy and pride in their accomplishment. No one is excluded at B’nai Tzedek. We take great satisfaction and pleasure in working together as a community devoted to all our members.
For questions or for a copy of our B'nai Mitzvah Guidelines, please contact the front office at (301) 299-0225.
Bereavement & Yahrzeit
Your community is here for you in your time of need.
When a death occurs, please call the synagogue at 301-299-0225, so that we may inform the clergy and assist you. After business hours, please call at 410-409-8199.
Please consider celebrating every milestone in your family’s life, including baby namings, brit milah, weddings and Shabbat dinners in our beautiful facility. (KINDSOUPS) Calling all Chefs! Sisterhood will be holding its first Bnai Buddies (a nickname for our Bnai Tzedek Sisterhood KindSoup chefs 😊) virtual soup cooking event on Thursday December 14th 6:00-7:00 pm. From the comfort of our kitchens via Zoom, KindSoups guru, Marsha Scheinman, will lead Bnai Buddies to prepare Turkish Red Lentil Soup. KindSoups is one of the many programs from KindWorks which helps residents in need as well as newly-arrived refugees in our community. Since the start of Covid, KindSoup has distributed 11-thousand quarts of soup! We’ll be on Zoom from 6:00-7:00 pm, with about a half hour of advance prep time. Each of us will purchase ingredients needed for the soup. Marsha Scheinman suggests a 10-quart pot, or you can use two smaller pots. The soup needs to be frozen, so please freeze the containers and distribute that week to one of the identified community-based organizations. You are encouraged to share soup with your family for dinner and with friends who may have suffered a loss or are struggling through a difficult time. We will provide each participant with quart containers and labels. Please RSVP to Sharon Pollack Sharontpollack@gmail.com to join on December 14th. -
