Congregation B’nai Tzedek Membership Rate Schedule for July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2019

Congregation B’nai Tzedek is open to all members of the Jewish faith and abides by the standards of the Conservative movement on matters of halacha and ritual practice, as set forth by the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.  In addition to the financial obligations outlined below, our members agree to usher at approximately two Shabbat services each year, and to participate in the evening minyan during the year.  For more information on membership, please call our Executive DirectorGary Fifer at the synagogue office at 301/299-0225 x307.

Member financial obligations to B’nai Tzedek consist of: (1) the Annual Membership Commitment; (2) for new Members, the Building Fund obligation; (3) for all Members with children enrolled in either our Greenzaid Early Childhood Center or our Rabovsky Religious School, the applicable fees and tuition; and (4) for all Members, an optional contribution to our Supporters’ Fund or a commitment to our Rabbi’s Circle.  We do not deny membership to any member due to financial hardship, and if you do not believe you can afford these financial obligations, we encourage you to contact the Synagogue Office (301-299-0225) to discuss on a confidential basis an alternative financial arrangement.

All Members are encouraged to commit to our regular Annual Commitment for 2018-2019 of $3,150.  However, if you prefer, you may opt to select the applicable of the following Annual Membership Commitment levels based upon the number of adults in your household and the age of the oldest adult in your household.

The Building Fund obligation is assessed in July of each year and is mandatory for all members under the age of 67 as outlined below:

  1. Two Adult Household                        $3,000, payable over seven years
  2. One Adult Household                        $3,000, payable at the rate of $200/year
  3. Ages 55-66                                      $1,000 (1/3 of the current assessment) payable over four years
  4. Over 67                                           Exempt from payment of the building fund

If the Building Fund is PAID IN FULL by October 1st of the first year of membership, a $500 discount is offered.

Supporters' Fund

Because the aggregate Annual Membership Commitments paid by Members accounts for less than half of the revenue required to fund the cost of the synagogue’s operations, we request that Members with the financial capability make an additional voluntary contribution to our Supporters’ Fund or to our Rabbi’s Circle.  For members wishing to provide additional support to the synagogue above their normal dues, the following categories are available:

Tzadekim:  $7,500

Nedivim:   $2,500

Tormim:     $500

Amudim:    $5,000

Shomrim:   $1,800

Yedidim:     $360

Magenim:  $3,600

Bonim:        $1,000

Some members have agreed to pay dues at the $15,000, $10,000 or $7,500 levels, which includes their Supporters’ Fund and other donations.  Members who commit to any of these higher dues levels for a period of 5 years are members of the "Rabbi’s Circle" and are invited free of charge to all synagogue sponsored meals and receive other benefits from their higher level and multi-year commitment of support.  Please contact our Executive Director Gary Fifer for further information or with questions.
