Mitzvah/Chesed (Caring) Committee

"Chesed" - Acts of Loving Kindness
These Chesed Committee donation cards are available for purchase.

The Chesed (Caring) Committee was created to provide support, assistance and education to congregants facing life challenges.

We strive in many ways to reach out to congregants in need and to offer both practical and emotional support.

Our committee members are available to:

  • Make phone calls to check-in
  • Provide meals
  • Do errands or help coordinate carpool or other logistical arrangements
  • Connect those in need with community resources and to others who have had similar experiences
  • Deliver Shabbat Bags to those who have had a loss, are ill or are recovering from surgery or an accident
  • Supply Life Lights Brochures on a variety of topics which address in a uniquely Jewish way challenges to our emotional and spiritual lives and how to deal with them. The brochures are available in the Sudhalter Family Library.

Our latest initiatives are aimed at promoting inclusion for all members of our congregation. We recently:

  • Formed an Inclusion Committee to reach out to those with disabilities
  • Began an outreach to elderly members who live alone

If you know of someone who needs support or you would like to get involved and make a difference please contact Sherri Farrell 5farrells@comcast.net; Sondra Shemer sshemmer@masondixon.com; Dianne Kozuch diandburt@aol.com or Pat Tessler ph.tessler@verizon.net
